About the SU  E-mail

Imagine that you get to spend two weeks with young people from all over Europe! It will undoubtedly be an adventurous experience with lots of parties. These places are called summer universities (SU), first organized in 1988, and they are the oldest running projects of AEGEE. By now, they became the most popular and most motivating events of the organization. Nearly a 100 summer universities are advertised in 40 different European countries every year.

The organizers are local youngsters, university students, while the participants are young Europeans of the widest variety, 20-40 for each summer university. The length of the summer universities varies from 1 to 4 weeks, but most of the time you will come across 2 week long journeys. The admission fee for two weeks is somewhere between 140 and 180 €, which includes accommodation, activity participation fees, at least two meals a day, and local travel expenses. The costs of reaching the desired summer university destination are on the participants.

There are five types of AEGEE summer universities:

  • Language Course (LC): During the two week program, you can take part in at least a 16 hour language training, where you can widen your knowledge and practice the language of the country you are in. The admission fee is 70€/week, which covers the costs of the language course, the accommodation, two meals a day and program participation.
  • Language Course Plus (LC+): Similarly to the previous type, here you can also attend language courses, but this Summer university can last 2-4 weeks. It involves at least 20 lessons taught by professional teachers. The admission fee is 90€/week, which covers the costs of the language course, the accommodation, two meals a day and program participation.
  • Summer Course (SC): This type of summer university revolves around a given topic (e.g. culture, history, sport, environment protection) and it can last 2-4 weeks. It involves at least 10 hours of education. The admission fee is 70 €/week, which covers the costs of the lessons, the accommodation, two meals a day and program participation.
  • Summer Event (SE): This program lasts at least one week, which focuses on a chosen topic, but it does not involve lectures or lessons. It is an exceptional opportunity to discover the habits and traditions of participants coming from different cultural backgrounds, and to experience the local singularities. The admission fee is 70€/week, which covers the costs of the accommodation, two meals a day and program participation.
  • Travelling Summer University (TSU): These summer universities are organized by two or more local organizations co-operatively. During the 2-4 weeks, you can visit at least 4 different European cities, and observe the cultures more closely without attending any courses. The admission fee is 90€/week, which covers the costs of the accommodation, two meals a day, program participation and local travel expenses.
